TDC Pest Control Tips & Information
Silver fish: What are they and how are they pests?
Silver fish are a teardrop shaped insect that varies in colour, from white to brown grey with blue and silver tones. Measuring at around 12-19mm in length, they have two long antennas on their head and three prominent ‘tails’ at the end. Their ability to move quickly ensure that they are able to survive in almost any environment. Silver fish prefer dark and damp areas, and continue to be a year round problem, due to them remaining in the same area once they have found a sufficient source of food.
How can I identify if I have a silver fish infestation in my home?
Finding exoskeletons, noticing irregular shaped holes in fabrics or wallpaper, or even finding yellowish stains on fabrics (especially in dark and humid climates), can be strong signs that you may have a silver fish infestation in your home. If you have noticed these signs, please call TDC Pest Control for a fully qualified and expert pest controller to resolve your silver fish problem both quickly and efficiently.
Rodents: Squirrels, Rats & Mice
How can I tell if I have a problem with rats or mice in my property?
Whether you’re worried about mice infesting your home, or you own a commercial property and suspect you may have a problem with rats, the thought of these rodents infesting can be unbearable. There are a few ways to confirm if you have rats or mice lurking in your premises, including:
How can rodents be treated by a TDC pest Controller?
There are numerous techniques that can be used to treat both rat and mice infestations, however this can be dependent on the following:
It will take two visits from a pest controller to treat a rodent infestation. The controller will need to attend the premises to assess the work that will be required, trapping squirrels, or, in the case of rats of mice, using bait or sticky boards. Our controllers will also make sure to give advice on combatting a further infestation, ensuring that your pest problem is a thing of the past. On the second visit, our pest controllers will remove any remaining baits, boards or traps used, as well as any dead bodies.
TDC Pest Fact: Rats contaminate and destroy enough food worldwide each year to feed 200 million people.
When are mice most active?
Mice are nocturnal, therefore they are most active during the night. As a result of this, an infestation can develop some time before a rat is even seen. If resources such as food and water are scarce however, they will start to become more active during the day.
