Rodent Infestations

There are three types of rodents in which are commonly treated by TDC Pest Control, including rats, mice and squirrels. We have included some helpful tips on identifying the key signs that suggest you may have an infestation, and the steps you can take to ensure your domestic or commercial property is pest free in no time.

Rodents: How can I tell if I have a rodent infestation?

Whether you’re worried about mice infesting your home, or you own a commercial property and suspect you may be experiencing a problem with rats, the thought of these rodents in your property can be unbearable. However, this problem can easily be resolved by TDC Pest Control. There are a few ways to confirm if you have rats or mice lurking in your premises, including:

• Shredded papers and materials
• Smear marks on any skirting boards
• A strong smell of urine in various areas of your property
• Noises at night, as rats and mice are nocturnal

Control & Treatment

Numerous techniques can be used to treat both rat and mice infestations, however this can be dependent on the following:

• The size or extent of the infestation
• The environment in which the rodents are inhabiting
• Domestic circumstances, such as children or domestic pets on site

It will take two visits from a pest controller to treat an infestation. The controller will need to attend the premises to assess the work that will be required, trapping squirrels or, in the case of rats of mice, using bait or sticky boards. Cluster fly infestations

There are a few ways to tell if you have cluster flies lurking in your home, noting that cluster flies are slightly smaller than the common blue-bottle fly, and may appear disorientated when attempting to fly. Identified together these flies form a ball-like cluster, also emitting a sweet, sickly odour.

What are cluster flies and what do they do?

Cluster flies pose no threat to humans as unlike other flies, they do not lay eggs on human food. During the summer months however, these flies inhabit properties in order for them to hibernate, and in turn ‘cluster’ together, consequently becoming an irritant in the household.

How cluster flies are treated

The characteristic ball of flies has to be established for at least 7 days until it can be treated; only after this amount of time will the insecticide affect the entire fly population. The pest controller will ‘fog’ an insecticide upon the cluster of flies. Once all of the flies have been destroyed, the bodies can easily be removed and disposed of by using a vacuum cleaner.

However, it should be noted that:

• The only type of fly that is treated by the pest control engineers is the cluster fly.
• The problem can be eradicated by finding the decomposing substance is disposing of it appropriately.
• After this, the area can be fully treated with a strong disinfectant, for example, bleach.
• Flies have to be established for at least 7 days before they can be treated.
